Scaly leg mite.

Hiya, one of my chickens has got scaly leg mite, what is the best thing to do to get rid of it? I soaked her legs in surgical spirit last night, is that the right way to go? Also ive got 6 other chickens, do i have to treat them aswell?

one of mine had it and i ws told that you should wash their feet with soapy warm water, dry off and then smother feet with vaseline/petroleum jelly....do this every day if you can and you will smother the mite... then its a case of trying to get rid of the white...not sure on that count...rehomed my cockrel before i managed to get it all off (some came off with the regular washing etc)

You should ALL read the Poultry Information section

DON'T pick any lifted scales off the legs they will be shed and renewed when the chook moults next.
