Rita update (prolapse in ex battery chuck)
« on: November 17, 2007, 21:36 »
Hi, a few weeks ago I posted re- Rita one of my new ex bats who had a prolapse.

Well now she seems much better.  For past few weeks she's been visiting vets every couple of days and having antibio & anti inflams.

I've been bathing area with dettol (diluted) twice a day, and treating with Fuciderm.

The prolapse has subsequently dried up and dropped off and the remaining good tissue has retracted.

Throughout she has been a little star.  Just standing there stoicly on a box whilst whilst I administered treatment.

Vet has also been brilliant and so far for all visits/treatment his bill has amounted to £24.50.

that's great news; thanks for the update.

what a great vet too :D

do they usually deal with poultry? we used to keep rats in england and it was a change from the ordinary for the vets - they once did a post mortum for free for us because of the 'novelty' of it (that's the wrong word but you know what i mean)

Glad to hear she's getting better, your vets bill is very reasonable round here it's about £15 a look see.

The vet normally charges £10 per consultation and any treatment would be extra.  He's had her under anastheatic and stitched her up, dept her for a day & seen her a good 1/2 dozen times.  Each visit an antibio/antiinflam injection & a couple of tubes of Fuciderm.

Rita has become somewhat famous at his surgery and very popular.

He doesn't get to see many if any other chucks but his Grandma used to keep them, so has a soft spot, particularly for the ex batts.
